Cuban Bruzon Wins Chess Tournament in Mexico

Havana, Cuba, Dec 23.- The Cuban Lazaro Bruzon repeated his triumphs of 2005 and 2013 to be crowned in the Magistral group of Carlos Torre Memorial Chess tournament in Merida, Mexico.

Bruzón totaled 7.5 points from a possible nine by drawing with his compatriot Juan Carlos Obregon and finished unbeaten with six wins and three draws, ahead of the also Cuban Isam Ortiz.

The latter achieved seven units and had better tiebreak than the American Alejandro Ramírez, third with similar amount in the standings that placed the also Cuban Roberto García fourth with the same amount of points.

The website of the organizing committee showed that the balance of the monarch was valid for a ranking performance of 2 757 Elo units and the sum of 11.2 units that will be added in January.

The event brought together 110 contestants as a prelude to the Latin Cup scheduled for December 26 to 31 in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil, where Bruzón, Isam and many of those gathered here will be also present.(acn).
